Fairview Health Services Supervisor Ambulance Operations in Saint Paul, Minnesota

Overview

We do this by providing more than 60,000 calls annually using our innovative equipment. Our ambulance teams are staffed by some of the most expert Paramedics and EMTs in the region, helping to make M Health Fairview a leader in Minnesota for emergency and non-emergency ambulance service.

The Supervisor of Ambulance Operatior provides operational and clinical supervision to the MedKab, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and Critical Care divisions of Fairview Medical Transportation to successfully meet the objectives of contractual agreements and the business needs of the organization.

This is a full-time position, working Monday through Friday with a weekend rotation. This position will likely work evenings or overnights on 12 hour shifts. Benefits include: Medical, Dental, 403B, PTO, tuition reimbursement and so much more!

Job Expectations:

Manages the day-today operations of assigned area(s) to ensure support of the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the business unit and of M Health Fairview.

  • Utilizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills to lead the business unit throughout assigned shifts.

  • Serves as role model and leader for staff.

  • Enhances partnerships with local First Responder Agencies.

  • Performs liaison activities between Fairview Medical Transportation and its MedKab, BLS, ALS, and Critical Care transport contract stakeholders.

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Fills key roles in local Incident Command Structure during significant incidents.

  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert for EMS staff and local First Responders.

  • Has authority in allocating critical resources.

Responsible for human resource management of assigned area(s) to ensure quality service and positive employee relations.

  • Implements and supports Human Resource policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.

  • Collectively selects top talent, matching organizational needs with appropriate skill sets and certifications.

  • Provides real-time clinical assessments of staff and provides feedback to the Medical Director and Operations leadership.

  • Ensures completion of training programs for staff, including orientation, field training and credentialing.

  • Rounds with staff on a daily basis.

  • Provides timely performance appraisals of assigned staff.

  • Escalates sensitive employee issues to next level leader.

Responsible for developing and maintaining a healthy, supportive work environment. Demonstrates behaviors constant with M Health Fairview commitments.

Responsible for effective fiscal management of assigned area(s) to ensure proper utilization of resources.

  • Develops and or provides input into budget for assigned area(s) to according to established procedures.

  • Ensures deployment and policy compliance for crews out in the field.

  • Monitors employee overtime, absenteeism and plans and approves unit hour staffing schedules according to pre-established parameters.

  • Fills staffing needs as necessary, acting as a crew member to ensure appropriate resource levels. Pursues cost savings and method for revenue generation within area(s) and or recommends savings in other areas.

  • Educates the patient care team members on financial implications of patient care decisions.

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned.

Qualifications

Required

Education

  • Associate Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Management or related field, or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience as an EMS field provider.

Experience

  • At least one year actively participating in Manager, Supervisor, Mentor, or formal position of authority providing guidance, instruction, training, and/or evaluation.

  • At least 2 years pre-hospital, Emergency Medical Service care experience.

Lic ense/Certification/Registration

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certified within 6 months of hire

  • National Registry EMT or Paramedic

  • MN EMSRB Certified EMT or Paramedic

  • National Incident Management System (NIMS), 100, 200, 700, 800

  • Verification Source: MN Department of, Public Safety, FEMA, TEEX

  • Valid Driver's License and DMV record that meets insurability requirement

Preferred

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Management or related field or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience as an EMS field provider.

  • Post-Secondary leadership education.

  • Trade certificate: ASM, NEMSMA, or similar

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years EMS experience preferred

  • 2 years or more of leadership experience

  • Ability to safety lift, push, pull and carry a minimum of 150 pounds

License/Certification/Registration

  • Critical Care Paramedic

  • Qualification Source: EMS EDUCATION

  • National Incident Management System (NIMS), 300, 400

  • Qualification Source: MN Department of, Public Safety, FEMA, TEEX

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
