Job Description

A dynamic and visionary individual is sought to join our organization as a highly engaged member of the Commercial Data Management & Strategy team during a time of significant change. As a key player in the External Data Governance & Execution team, the Associate Director of External Data Governance will play a crucial role in driving and navigating transformative initiatives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, adaptability, and growth. The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, combined with strategic thinking and exceptional problem-solving skills, and an enterprise mindset, will be paramount to success in this role. Strong leadership will be required to inspire and motivate teams to embrace change and achieve organizational objectives. Passion for innovation, coupled with experience, will be instrumental in shaping our future and ensuring its continued success in a rapidly evolving marketplace.

As the Associate Director of External Data Governance, you will play a critical role in ensuring effective communication, documentation, and alignment of data governance practices across the organization, particularly with external data suppliers. Your team will include the Senior Manager, External Data Documentation & Compliance and you both will collaborate under your direction on developing and implementing a comprehensive data literacy and communication program to promote awareness of governance models and goals throughout the USBU in regards to the external data partner community. Partnering with legal, compliance, and data acquisition teams, you will establish clear operating models for decision-making and risk management related to external data activities. Additionally, you will lead efforts to comprehend, store, and disseminate business and quality rules provided by data suppliers. Collaborating with learning and development teams, you will assess and upskill members of the organization on data sources, use cases, and technologies. Your role also involves evolving vendor glossaries and other online materials to improve accessibility and usability for business users. Throughout all of this you will develop, coach, and mentor the Senior Manager in pursuit of the ability for the two of you to manage an ever-increasing scope. In sum, you will be expected to be the point of contact within the USBU with the most knowledge on who, why, and how we engage with external data partners and can effectively communicate the strategy behind our engagements to the broader data user community.

How you will contribute:

  • Establish, develop, implement, and sustain a data literacy and communication program to promote awareness of governance and operating models across the organization in regards to external data partnerships

  • Promote data strategy and governance goals as they relate to external partnerships in various business units and forums to create clarity around how value is derived from these engagements.

  • Lead, develop, and mentor the Senior Manager, External Data Documentation & Compliance and create a managerial structure whereby the Sr Manager can lead on tactical and cyclical execution items while you lead communications, change management, and strategy with them supporting you in those activities.

  • Partner with legal and compliance teams to establish clear operating models for decision-making and risk management related to external data activities.

  • Work closely with Data Acquisition to comprehend, capture, store, and keep up to date with the latest versions of technical, business, quality rules applied by data suppliers prior to the data’s arrival. Ensure these requirements and specifications are clearly and timely communicated to the External Data Execution team.

  • Develop an advisory component to promote awareness of industry best practices by foster discussions, creating seminars, attending councils, and overall be the primary communications member of the team

  • Connect with learning and development teams to assess and upskill members of the organization on data sources, use cases, and technologies.

  • Coordinate change management activities that involve external data partners and facilitate the development and delivery of impact assessments and related messaging.

  • Partner with data acquisition to evolve vendor glossaries and online materials for improved accessibility and usability by business users with the overall responsibilities of overseeing the comprehensive library of documents related to external data partnerships and engagement

  • Builds, retains, develops, and motivates team members to success. Builds a talent base and succession plan, implements personal development plans and training to achieve business objectives

  • Embeds an agile mindset and spirit of innovation in the team and the way they work.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS/BA degree required with MS/MBA preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years of management level experience in the pharmaceutical, immunology, biologic/biotech, or medical device industries required

  • 5+ years experience influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders

  • Proven track record of leading and driving business process transformation and organizational culture change as well as delivering on programs with complex business deliverables

  • Ability to set priorities, deliver on deadlines and develop workflow processes and tasks in an evolving, dynamic marketplace.

  • Strong analytical skills and budget management.

  • Previous organizational change management experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and skills necessary to lead through change and influence without authority.

  • Ability to demonstrate strategic and critical thinking, as well as problem solving skills

  • Strong organizational, planning and project management skills–ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and develop workflow processes and tasks for multiple projects

  • Track record of successful leadership, management, and development of small to medium, multi-disciplinary dispersed teams. Strong judge of talent with the ability to make tough talent decisions.

  • Health care business acumen with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$149,100.00 - $234,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
