    Salary:

    This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $93,002. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

    Role Overview:

    The Director of Charter Schools plays a critical role in promoting educational excellence and choice through the effective oversight and support of charter schools in Indiana. This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of education and make a positive impact on students' lives. The Director oversees the administration, development, and compliance of charter schools in Indiana. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of education policy, federal programs, and school administration.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Develop and implement policies and guidelines for the establishment, operation, and evaluation of charter schools. Remain current on national and state-level charter school laws and regulations to ensure compliance and promote innovation.

  • Partner with charter school authorizers to monitor the performance and administrative effectiveness of charter schools. Complete required reports on the performance of charter schools.

  • Strategically administer the $109M Charter School Program - Quality Counts grant and other charter-school-focused grant programs to support the operation and expansion of high-quality charter schools. Complete all required reporting and monitoring requirements associated with managing federal funds.

  • Collaborate with charter school leaders, educators, and community stakeholders to foster a supportive environment for charter schools. Provide technical assistance, professional development, and resources to charter schools to promote their success and academic achievement.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive system for evaluating charter school performance, including academic outcomes, financial management, and compliance. Hold charter schools accountable for meeting performance standards and take appropriate actions when necessary.

  • Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for charter schools at the state level. Build positive relationships with legislators, policymakers, and community leaders to promote the value and impact of charter schools in Indiana's education landscape.

What You'll Need for Success:

Required:

  • Master's degree in education, public administration, or a related field is required with 5-7 years of experience in education administration, including experience with charter schools.

  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal charter school laws, regulations, and policies is essential.

    Additional skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  • Familiarity with Indiana's charter school landscape and authorization process is highly desirable.

  • Strong leadership and management abilities, including strategic planning, project management, and team building.

  • Experience in overseeing complex educational initiatives and managing diverse stakeholders is necessary.

  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, advocacy, and relationship building with key education stakeholders.

  • Ability to articulate a clear vision for charter schools and effectively communicate it to diverse audiences.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate charter school applications, monitor performance, and address challenges.

  • Ability to use data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with charter school leaders, educators, and community members.

  • Ability to build partnerships and foster a positive and inclusive culture of innovation in charter schools.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
